Your Mums' and Dad's worry about you!
Having diabetes isn't much fun but having your parents/grandparents worry and nag you is a big problem too.
Perhaps if I tell you how they feel, you may understand why they are always on your case and act the way they do.
When they first found out you had diabetes, I can guarantee they were devasted, worried and very very scared. A lot of emotions in one hit. They would have questioned why? The big 'D' was suddenly in their lives, it was going to be a huge responsibility and a big problem.
The chances are they knew absolutely nothing about diabetes and especially you being diagnosed as type 1, certainly not the same as people they may have known with type 2.
Your parents love you so much and because of this they would have hated your first injection and all those finger pricks. Not nice for you, not good for them.
Your parents would know about complications that could occur if they didn't control your blood sugars. They worry about exercise, your food, when you are ill, when you at sleepovers, at school, wherever - they want you to have a normal life but it is so hard for them.

I bet your parents are always on to you to do your blood tests. It is because it is very very important.
I know sometimes you forget, you are too busy or just didn't think you needed to as you felt ok. All those ok's could be piling up into BIG problems caused by lots of hidden HIGH SUGARS.
I AM OK + HIGH SUGARS = BIG PROBLEMS
If you don't take your insulin then you know you really going to be nagged at.
I know you hate being told off, probably you will go all moody, get in a sulk, but do you know how important insulin is TO YOU. Your pancreas doesn't produce any - zero!
If you don't give yourself the insulin you need you will become VERY POORLY and your parents are going to be very unhappy.
All they want FOR YOU is for you to stay healthy.
Having a hypo is bad for you and it takes some time to feel better. Parents worry when you feel weak, dizzy and hate you feeling so rough.
When you go off to school laden with insulin, glucose sweets, lucozade, snacks and hypostop, they wave goodbye and the worry begins.
They worry you won't know when you have a hypo.
They worry there won't be anyone to take care of you.
They worry that no one knows about diabetes.
So to help them, please make sure you tell your teacher if you feel unwell, and let your mums and dads nag from time to time, it's only because they care.
